Sammanfattning: Authors: Emma Gund and Gabriella Dagnevik Title: Belly ache, headache, soul ache – A qualitative study of depressed children from the perspective of the professional. Supervisor: Lars B Ohlsson The purpose of this study was to, from a professional perspective; examine the situation that occurs around a child when suffering from depression. This has been studied through an analysis of how professionals are talking about children with depression, what resources exist around the child, what are the symptoms that form the basis of a depression and do the professional agree to provide children with antidepressants. Our focus has been on children aged 6-12 years. To answer the questions we have used a qualitative study with six semi-structured interviews with different professional groups with an insight and experience of children. We have used both discretion and ethical consequence theory as a theoretical basis when we analyzed our material. Some of our conclusions that there were the need of awareness and more talk about this topic, especially in a school environment where children spend most of their time. The symptoms can appear in several different ways and therefore sometimes becomes difficult to determine if there is a depression or not, and shows that antidepressants never is a first choice in the treatment of children and adolescents. Keywords: Child depression, medication, treatment and resources.
