Sammanfattning: This is a problematization of UN’s work on preventing child soldiers and also an analysis of the consistency between the Convention on the Right of the Child and Responsibility to Protect (R2P). I have chosen to examine the Convention on the Right of the Child because it expresses the human rights of a child, and R2P because it phrases UN’s opportunity to protect human rights in a state where those rights are being deprived. My aim for this essay has been to investigate how these documents correlate in protecting children of being used as soldiers. I discuss the responsibilities and obligations of the world society to protect children. Based on this analysis of the Convention on the Right of the Child and R2P, I argue that the ratification of the Convention on the Right of the Child can motivate an implementation of R2P to restrain the use of child soldiers.
