Moldavien och EU : -En fallstudie om identitetens roll för Moldaviens integrationsprocess med EU.

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för samhälls- och kulturvetenskap (from 2013)

Sammanfattning: In 2014, Moldova's former prime minister Lurie Leanca said that Moldova would be a member of the EU in five years. It is now five years later but Moldova are yet not a member of the EU, they have actually not even applied for membership. In order to understand why this is, this case study has investigated if national identity plays an important role in Moldova’s integration with the EU, based on previous research on European integration that states that national identity plays a role in the integration processes. This study have found that there could be a connection between identity and why Moldova has not yet applied for membership to the EU, however the study cannot rule out that there are more factors that may have had an impact. For example, the widespread corruption in Moldova also seems to play an important role in why Moldova has not applied for membership to the EU. The results of the study were achieved by operationalizing the concept of identity to four identity markers, taken from previous research, to investigate whether these markers were also found in Moldova, which was done through a qualitative text analysis.
