Sammanfattning: As global warming and more extreme weather makes the threat of flooding more prominent, it is vital to identify what can be done and by whom. The individual household preparedness is a big factor that this study aims to evaluate. The core of this study includes interviews with people living in high-risk areas for flooding in Malmoe, Sweden. The aim was to map out the motives behind the preparedness measures taken or not taken by the individuals and their views on household preparedness, with the final goal of bringing forth a proposal of methods to increase motivation for preparedness actions towards flooding. The result of the study shows that individuals that had suffered the consequences of a flooding already had taken most of the viable preparedness measures and the motivation for the more expensive ones were missing. The main conclusion of the study is that measures towards increased household preparedness against floods should be aimed at individuals living in high-risk areas but lacking prior experience of floods.
