Beslagsupploppet i Ystad 1835 - mot folkets vrede skyddar inga uniformer

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Historia

Sammanfattning: This paper examines the how and why of a seizure riot in the small southern Swedish town of Ystad in the year 1835. The riots involved approximately one fourth or one fifth of all grown men in the city and members from all social classes. The primary source is the court records from the ensuing trial. Hermeneutics was used for interpreting the court records. Further analysis of the actions and the underlying motivation were based on Charles Tilly´s Contentious Politics Studies and E.P. Thompsons´s theory of moral economy. The results further validates previous research as well as point out striking similarities to the food riots in the English countryside in the late eighteenth century as studied by E.P. Thompson.
