Ekosystemtjänster och naturbaserade lösningar i den kommunala fysiska planeringen
Sammanfattning: Modern society is characterized by rapid population growth and urbanization. The urban population is exposed to many risks connected to the urban way of living such as the effects of climate change, loss of biodiversity and health risks. Sustainable urban planning where ecosystem services and nature-based solutions are included can mitigate these risks. The purpose of this study is to investigate how Swedish municipalities integrate ecosystem services and nature-based solutions in urban planning. To collect information an online survey was sent to all the municipalities. The results show that it is more common for Swedish municipalities to integrate ecosystem services than nature-based solutions in comprehensive plans and detailed development plans. However, the term ecosystem services is only included in 39 % of the municipalities comprehensive plans and nature-based solutions are included in 2,5 % of the comprehensive plans. Furthermore, 66 % of the municipal officials have worked with ecosystem services and 17,7 % have worked with nature-based solutions in planning processes. Hence, the respondent’s knowledge of the term ecosystem services was much higher than their knowledge of nature-based solutions. The possibilities to protect, strengthen and create new ecosystem services was ranked as just above medium by the respondents. In conclusion, Swedish municipalities are integrating the concepts in urban planning which is an important way to mitigate the negative consequences of urbanization, but there is need for further integration to reach national and international targets about sustainable urban development.
