Föränderlig historiekonsumtion : En komparativ studie kring konsumtionen av Historia i Gymnasie- och högstadieskolan
Sammanfattning: Technological and societal advancements have made development in education a prevailing topic. New teaching tools and methods must be implemented to make education progress at the same velocity as today’s modern society. To be able to make advancements in education, we need to take students views into account and observe their consumption patterns regarding knowledge. This study aims to examine how students consume historical knowledge outside of history education in school and by which means students attain this knowledge. This study use surveys to obtain data on how students in secondary and upper-secondary school view history as a subject and by which means they consume history outside of school. A total of 78 students in Secondary and Upper-Secondary school participated in the survey. The results show a pattern where students consume most of their historical knowledge by commercial means such as movies, TV-series and games. There was little to no interest for gaining knowledge through other instruments such as literature. Consequently, this shows that students are affected by profit-driven and commercial products that aims towards entertainment rather than education. The valuable bi-product of commercial means is that young people consume vast amounts of historical material, without realizing that their consumption could improve their historical literacy.
