Solenergi i svenskt klimat : Energikartläggning av koncentrerande solenergianläggning på Psykiatrins hus

Global warming is one of many challenges that the world is struggling with today. In order to reduce their ecological footprint, the County Council of Uppsala is planning to install a significant proportion of photovoltaic systems within the next three years. A concentrated photovoltaic and solar heating system has supplied Psykiatrins hus with both electricity and heat since 2013.

The insight of how this system works is inadequate. This report therefore aims, commissioned by the County Council Services in Uppsala, to investigate and analyze the energy production produced by the solar energy system on Psykiatrins hus. The purpose of this work is to explain how the solar energy system on Psykiatrins hus works, and to give the County Council a better understanding of solar energy.

A study has been carried out in April 2015 to see if the energy production fulfills what can be expected according to projected values. Energy production has been compared with the radiated solar energy to evaluate the solar energy system’s efficiency and suitability in a Swedish climate.

The conclusion is that the produced energy in April 2015 is reasonable, although the County Council Services had higher expectations before this work started. However, the suitability of the solar energy system in a Swedish climate should be questioned. Due to the price trend that photovoltaic systems had the past years and the knowledge of the direct solar radiation impact on concentrated solar energy systems, the recommendation to the County Council is that future investments should focus on pure solar photovoltaic systems or pure solar thermal systems.
