”Helt utan påverkan, jag valde det jag ville” En studie om gymnasieelevers val av instrument och vad som påverkat dem

Detta är en Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå från Lunds universitet/Musikhögskolan i Malmö

Sammanfattning: This is a mixed method research study about the instrument choices of upper secondary school students. The students’ own opinion regarding instrument choices is examined. Factors such as why and how a particular instrument has been chosen have been discussed. How do the students look at their own and others’ choice of instrument? What factors influence their choices? What does the distribution of instruments look like between boys and girls? What does this distribution depend on? I sent a survey to 12 Upper secondary Schools in Skåne, Sweden. Students enrolled in the Arts Program, Music major, answered the survey. I have also interviewed 5 upper secondary students for further analysis. My conclusion showed that students made their choices based on the same reasons. Factors that may have influenced their choice of instrument were their general likings, family, idols, friends, siblings and accessibility of an instrument. The five most common instrumental choices for boys and girls were the same, but in different order. Boys and girls had the same musical habits, but boys were the only ones that mentioned playing in a band. Although their choices did well correlate with previous studies, most students did not see themselves as influenced by others in their choice of instrument.
