Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to investigate the social worker's role and vision in the work with children and families who have a different language background. Social workers with families with several languages have expanded in Sweden in recent years, and that's why I think it is an interesting subject to study. I study about what room for maneuver they have in the meeting with the families. The information was collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with social workers who work with children and families in a medium-sized Swedish city. The participants were chosen at random. I have used organizational theory, room for maneuver, and the therapeutic alliance used to analyze data. The result of this study showed that everyone is treated equally even if there is a language barrier. To be able to communicate with the families, an interpreter is used in the meeting. This study found, however, there may be some obstacles that could affect the communication. These obstacles can be a lack of interpreters or cultural clashes. To resist these obstacles, they try to create a dialogue and build a relationship with these families. It is to be able to create the safety that the client can experience and above the fear. This study found that it will be a challenge for the social worker to show sympathy and empathy, but that it can be built up by increasing the time for the meeting and having more meetings.
