Sammanfattning: By analysing family structure this study aims to examine how the heteronorm is expressed in pitcure books which have recieved state aid for distribution to Swedish preschools in 2019. Previous research within the field shows that although queer families are represented in pitcurebooks books, it is often a certain type of queer being made visible. It also shows that the queer families, despite being queer, can be seen as upright - holding heteronormative patterns. After a categorization, based upon family structures, of the 45 selected books listed by Kulturrådet as book gifts, it became clear that the families portrayed both maintained and broke the heteronorm. The heteronorm is maintained by the fact that several books only represent heterosexual families, whilst no book depicted merely queer families. Thus it can be suggested that the heterosexual families are more normalized and made more visible than the queer families. However in contrast, the heteronorm is broken by the fact that most books do not depict any heteronormative togetherness of two.  It was also broken when the books which depict several different family constellations did not make the monogamous heterosexual core family the norm. In the depth analysis of three of these 45 books, the general result was the same, with the heteronorm being both maintained and broken. It was maintained by depicting monogamous nuclear families, both homosexual and heterosexual, and was broken by, depictions of polygamous bisexual families, as well as single families that did not maintain any heteronormative togetherness of two
