Ett rättvist USA eller ett mäktigt USA?- En diskursanalys av det amerikanska säkerhetskonceptet
Sammanfattning: How is the American security concept discursive constructed by the presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump during the election campaign 2016? By utilizing a discourse- theoretical analysis and a poststructural feminist perspective, the aim of this study is to explore how gender constructions operate in the discursive construction of the American security concept. The analysis is based on three debates between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump including the nomination speech from respectively national convention. Moreover, further implications of these depictions are discussed by identifying dichotomies of feminine and masculine. The study finds that in the discourse, the American security concept is built upon a construction that values masculinities over femininities. Hillary Clinton’s discursive construction claims the importance of strategic actions, trust and self- control as the core of the security concept, which are built upon a modern form of masculinities. Donald Trump’s discursive construction portrays the American security concept incident to control, stamina and strength and derives from a more traditional form of masculinities.
