Sammanfattning: The Swedish labor market is quite divided in female and male coded occupations. Working as a municipal female employee within the welfare system is very common, this part of the labour market is also where many of the part time workers are located. Working part time is an opportunity for some people, women in particular, to combine work with family life. With that said, it can also have economic effects. The Swedish welfare system is in need of more employees to face the current welfare challenge. Therefore, municipals as employers are in great need of making full time jobs more attractive to the people already working within the organizations. The purpose of this study is to examine why women in particular are working part time in a specific municipality and what the employer can do to make full time jobs more attractive. It will also analyze if there are any differences in the attitudes of working full or part time depending on family situation. To be able to provide empirical data, a survey has been conducted among the employees within three units at a Swedish municipality. The results show that the most common reason for working part time is to be able to spend more time with family, to have more spare time, and the fact that they manage with their part time salary. To make full time work more attractive, most employees requested higher salaries, the opportunity to affect their schedule and to be able to spend all working hours at the same working site.
