Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to examine music teachers experiences with grading and assessment. In this qualitative study six active music teacher are interviewed and mainly focuses on the Swedish gymnasium course Ensemble with Choir. The results show that music teachers perceive problems when it comes to equally interpret the current curriculum because Lgy 11 does not express how the knowledge requirements should be interpreted. The informants describe how the music subjects’ dilemma has its roots in its abstract form as well as its different genres and instruments. Beyond this difficulty there is some problems with the teachers’ different musical backgrounds because these backgrounds emphasize different musical aspects. In the result two main assessment cultures appear: Individual assessment and collegial assessment. At the same time the teachers express a relatively equal assessment and grading on their own schools but problematizes whether that applies when comparing between schools on a national level
