Sammanfattning: This thesis investigate the European Union’s ’Global Approach to Migration and Mobility (GAMM) in the Mediterranean Sea. The core of GAMM is it to create partnerships with the countries of the southern Mediterranean Sea for the purpose of a secure environment for regular migration and mobility. This thesis analyse the core ideas of security in GAMM through a comparison of ideal types of national security and human security to see if the improved security is for the EU or the individual migrant. The results showed that the GAMM contains aspects of both ideal types. The way GAMM includes several of actors in its actions and its positive view of the international arena is connected to human security. The definition of irregular migration as a threat fails to support all migrants as it legitimate EU being present beyond its own territory and strict border controls. GAMM leads to increased security for EU, the partner countries, regular migrants, victims of trafficking and refugees but not for the irregular migrants as they are described as the main threat to security.
