Sammanfattning: The years 1950 - 1970 can be seen as a social, economic and political liberation for the Swedish woman. There is a debate about women's emancipation and that the classic Swedish housewife is considered outdated which inhibits the growth of society. During the same period, “Motboken” is abolished in the year of 1955. “Motboken” was a Swedish alcohol reform between the years 1919-1955. It was a major attempt to reduce alcohol consumption by regulating alcohol use. After year 1955 women now have the same right as men to both purchase and be seen with alcohol in public. I have been trying to get a deeper look into the years 1950 and 1970 with a focus on contemporary Swedish films. In the films, I investigate attitudes about how the woman should behave towards alcohol despite the change in the law and how the film depicts the woman's liberation. The film is a strong contribution in influencing people with their message. A film reaches out to all kinds of people, both women and men, regardless of class and ethnicity. I am therefore interested in exploring the film's world and how it presents reality together with alcohol from a gender perspective. What I am interested in is seeing how gender roles can be portrayed in the movie and to observe if it is all fictional or shows reality as it is.
