Sammanfattning: This study aims to analyze the relationships between degree of green infrastructure, walkability and perceived social safety in a given geographical location. Previous researchhas shown how the presence of green urban elements - in addition to functioning as stressreducers - can create well-being and socialization incentives in public places. These, in turncan encourage people to move more by foot or other slow means of conveyance. In theliterature, these factors are considered to contribute to strengthening both safety and theconnections between the people who use a space. These relationships are investigatedthrough a study of an attempt by Partille municipality to increase attractiveness and perceived security around the centrally located square - Kyrktorget. An analysis of planning documents from the municipality of Partille, shows how the municipality works with the concept of the mixed town but does not have a specific concept for treating pedestrians. The issue of green infrastructure in the urban environment is treated sparingly in the planning documents, withthe municipality's green strategy mainly being directed at peripheral areas. The study alsoincluded a survey, which found that 70% of respondents demand more life and movement onKyrktorget in order to increase perceived safety. In our analysis, we argue that this supportsthe need to increase the square's walkability. However, the survey also found that only 16%of respondents believed that greenery leads to increased feelings of safety. We interpret thisas meaning that the relationship between greenery and safety is not as clear and is of a more indirect nature, with increased walkability as "intermediary". We conclude that, althoughwalkability and green infrastructure can provide valuable perspectives when planning forsafety, these relationships cannot be captured by a given formula, but the problem should beaddressed across sectors.
