Sammanfattning: The picture book and reading have a central role in the activities of the preschool, therefore we have chosen to study picture books. We have linked the picture book as a central part of the teaching to the everyday phenomenon of contagion. Infection is common among children in preschool. Being infected by others as a child is part of growing up, whether you want it or not. The purpose of the study is to describe how contagion from a societal perspective was illustrated in picture books for preschool children. 15 books from the early 2000s to the 2020s have been analyzed. All books are picture books intended for preschool children. These picture books touch on contagion in one or more ways. With the help of qualitative text analysis, we have analyzed and thematized the content using the following themes: infectious agents, routes of transmission, consequences of infection and infection prevention measures. The conclusion is that there are relevant picture books for preschool children that illustrate contagion and its consequences from a societal perspective, which makes the picture books an important resource in teaching about this subject.
