Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to identify how people active in the field of folk dress in Skåne view the appropriace of costume choices regarding different localities. The major objective of the present study is to clarify the perceptions of the informants about how a folk costume can be right for one person to wear but inappropriate for another. The empiric data was conducted through qualitative interviews with 4 hand picked people based on their folk costume knowledge. The interviews were recorded on audio tepe. Regarding the choice of costume, the most curical factor is the connection of the wearer to the locality the dress comes from. All informants believed that there is no rule about which costume to wear that should be followed and that it is possible to choose the costume from a different city than the city a person in question is connected to. However such a choice requires a motivation for why the wearer has chosen to select a different outfit than the one from their respective region. The reason for why an explanation is needed seems to steam from the fact that the costume is so strongly linked to the feeling of identity and belonging. In the discussion section of the present study, the issue about the existence and conservation of folk costume are discussed in relation to a globalized society where knowledge of folk craft spread between nations. People change their location more to day than when the folk costume was worn daily by farmers. How will the tradition of wearing folk costume follow the development of the society?
