Sammanfattning: This thesis constitutes an idea analysis of sex trafficking as a security issue. The question is if the European union and Swedish government adopt a traditional state-centered perspective or an individual-centered perspective in the security dimension. The analysis is mainly based on Lobasz´s theoretical framework and the two ideal types, and they are used to analyze how the Swedish government and European union outline the security referent, security threat and finally the policy focus. The aim is to identify which attitude prevails in the material regarding sex trafficking as a security issue and report if there exist significant differences. The problem is based on the fact that member states and other actors want to handle this complex crime in different ways, which make a solution more difficult when the problem may not interpret in the same way. In summary, the conclusion is that neither Sweden nor the EU assumes only one of the perspectives and there are many similarities between these two. However, there is a difference between the extent to which perspective is present in the material regarding security referent, security threat and policy focus.
