The green formula

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: This thesis tests, using quantitative methods, how four factors, namely frequency of post materialism, electoral system, party competition and nuclear power, affect and potentially explain the success rate of green parties through share of electoral support and share of parliamentary representation. The aim is to map out good and bad conditions for a green party to succeed on a transnational basis. The results suggest that post materialism plays a relatively large role in explaining success rates. Electoral system and party competition are also believed to play a part in the outcome. Nuclear power seems to, according to the tests, have a rather limited role, if any, in explaining the success of green parties. The type of data that is used heavily affects the result, therefore different types of data are presented and a discussion follows on how one can interpret the different results.
