Föräldrars förväntningar inför och åsikter om AKKtiv KomIgång - en kurs om kommunikation och kommunikationsstöd

Sammanfattning: The aim of the study was to increase knowledge about how AKKtiv ComAlong, a parent-focused communication intervention, works for different groups of parents and their children with communication difficulties. The aim was also to investigate what kind of expectations they had and how these were met, and how they perceived that family life and communication were affected. 611 evaluation surveys containing both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from 100 AKKtiv ComAlong courses provided within Swedish Habilitation services between 2012 and 2018. The results showed that the participants were as satisfied with the course as in previous study and that there were only small variations between different groups of parents (the diagnosis or age of the child and the parent's gender). The most common expectations the parents had on the course: Improve communication, Get tools, Exchange experiences, were fulfilled to a great extent. Furthermore, 93.8 percent stated that they had changed their communication style with their children after completed course and 81 percent also perceived a change in the children's way of communicating. The participants, mothers in particular, also reported positive impacts on social life after the course. The discussion also highlights less positive results, for example when it comes to parents of children with multiple disabilities.
