Kalaallit nunaat - människornas land: en studie om en kulturell minoritet

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this essay was to research the citizenship of a minority in relation to that of the majority and what importance it has for Greenlanders in Denmark. The questions asked were the following; What elements underlie the Danish people's image of the Greenlanders and the Greenlanders' image of themselves? What is the importance of official institutions recognising cultural minority groups to the Greenlanders' identification process? To what extent is the citizenship enough for the Greenlanders as a minority to feel as and be regarded as equal citizens? To answer the above questions we interviewed Danish, Greenlanders and Swedish social workers in Denmark. We also studied literature on the subject. Our conclusion is that the image of the Greenlanders in the Danish society is derived from the colonization. Today, the Greenlanders in Denmark still have low status and have not reached acknowledgement of their cultural identity. It is of the highest priority that official institutions acknowledge the Greenlanders as a cultural minority, otherwise they can never feel nor be considered as equal citizens.
