Romansen om de tre kungadömena och de 79 kvinnorna : En kvantitativ och kvalitativ studie om vilka kvinnor som synligörs i en kinesisk roman
Sammanfattning: China is growing on the international stage and is therefore a subject for more attention. As the interest for China grows, so does the interest for China and its history. The purpose of this essay is to study a Chinse novel and its portrayal of the ideal woman. The romance of the three kingdoms is in large parts character driven and is therefore fitting for a study of the portrayal of women. The reasoning behind that is that the narrative construction of one self has its roots in how both men and women are portrayed in history and with reference to the gender contract, describes norms on of how to respectively how not to be. The essay is of both a quantitative and qualitative nature with the quantitative aspect being to study how women are described in terms of work situation, appearance and characteristics. The qualitative aspect is to compare the representation of the woman to that of the man in the romance of the three kingdoms. The conclusion of the essay is that there is a separate description of the ideal women to that of the Ideal man and that these are widely different in terms of appearance, work situation and characteristics. Although some representation of women are alike that of the man, the ideal women is far from that of the ideal man.
