"För mig handlar det om att ha bra relation till sin familj, bra matvanor och regelbunden träningsrutin" : En kvantitativ studie om gymnasielevers kunskap om-, perspektiv på- och förhållningsätt till hälsa och hälsoundervisning

Sammanfattning: After almost one and a half years at University studying sports science you constantly hear about society moving towards a sedentary lifestyle with a higher rate of everyday screen time, which is also stated by Livsmedelsverket (2020). In a scientific article by Inger Karlefors (2012) you also hear about students viewing PE as some sort of “active break from theoretical studies”, maybe some of us can even relate to this? But then; are students really taught to understand the meaning and weight behind a favorable physical health? Are they aware how to behave to develop their physical health and how a developed physical health affect their mental health? These thoughts helped shape the foundation of my study - how do students view and treat the concept of “health” and health as education?  To get an answer to my issues, I decided to perform a quantitative study with the help of digital questionnaires aimed for high school students, regarding this very topic. The number of students that participated was 67 of which 19 were men, 47 were women and 1 student whom identified as “other”. The result of this study proved that for the majority of students their perspective of health is similar to that of the syllabus – mostly pathogenic, focusing on the physical health. The study also proved that Swedish high school students reckon the health education as sufficient, this is also proven in their own judgement regarding their knowledge considering physical activity. Most of the students considered themselves as being well knowledgeable regarding how physical activities affect the physical as well as the mental health.
