Supercykelvägar i Malmö

Detta är en Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå från Lunds universitet/Trafik och väg

Sammanfattning: An increase of cycling is known to increase health, lower gas-emissions and lower traffic-congestion. In cities with a high modal-share of bicycling, a higher quality of life can be measured. “Supercykelvägar” in The Netherlands and Denmark are defined as forming the backbone of the regional cycling-network. Malmö is planning to implement six routes of “supercykelvägar” within the city and the first route is set to be built in the fall of 2022 between Segevång and Limhamn. The strategy follows the city’s goal of reaching a modal-share of 30 % by year 2030. This master’s thesis analyzes what the concept of “supercykelvägar” is, both according to scientific literature and proven implementations in Denmark and The Netherlands. The literary review shows the purpose and design of “supercykelvägar”. Malmö’s conceptualization and interpretation is further investigated by interviewing two traffic-planners in Malmö. The conclusion of this master’s thesis shows that “supercykelvägar” follows national, regional and municipal objectives regarding the increase of bicycle-use. The concept, which is often defined for regional commuting, has in Malmö, been used regarding cycling within the city. This may result in problems regarding design and prioritization of the infrastructure in a city setting. Despite this, the implementation of “supercykelvägar” is a step in the right direction towards a sustainable traffic-development, and Malmö’s development can hopefully lead to the concept being implemented in other Swedish cities.
