Sammanfattning: The purpose of this thesis is to analyze, from a gender perspective, the perceived safety of adolescents and young adults at Stenpiren which is an important public transport hub in Gothenburg. We aim to identify measures that can improve the sense of security experienced by people at Stenpiren. We also aim to highlight how adolescents and young adults experience security and insecurity.Public places should be accessible and open to all individuals in society. However, this is not always the case. Therefore, insecurity is considered to be a social problem as it limits people's freedom of movement and access to public places. There is not as much research on adolescents and young adults' experiences of fear and safety as can be found regarding other age groups. Adolescents and young adults also tend to stay outdoors more often and later in the evening than other groups do. Because of this knowledge gap, this work has focused on young people and young adults' experiences of security and insecurity at Stenpiren. One hundred and fifty-three people aged between 13 and 26 participated in the survey. One hundred and seven of whom identified as women forty-three as men and 3 gave no gender. The research design is mainly quantitative, but also incorporates a qualitative part where respondents were asked open questions. The results of the study show that the majority feel safe during the daytime, but that there is a greater feeling of fear in the evening. The most frequently stated cause for this fear it that Stenpiren lacks flows of people moving around. Many women also explain their feelings of fear with the reference of the fact of being women and therefore a more insecure in society than men generally are.The results of the survey indicate that Stenpiren is considered a safe place and does not stand out in Gothenburg as an unsafe public place. At the same time, several suggestions motivate action against Stenpiren that could make the place or the experience even safer. For example,4many people want Stenpiren to have more life and people moving around after office hours. Pubs, restaurants and housing were all mentioned in this respect. Ticket controllers or security guards at Stenpiren could also increase feeling of safety, especially in the evening.
