Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to see how crime in the suburb Bäckby in Västerås is constructed in the local newspaper VLT. This study also answers three questions. How the crime reporting changed between the years of 2010 and 2016, how the relationship between citizens of Bäckby and other parts of Västerås were constructed and how actors like polices and other people were framed.   The method was qualitative framing analysis. The method was chosen because it made the latent message in the material visible. Through strategic sampling 24 articles were analyzed. Some genres were estimated to be irrelevant, like sport articles, culture articles, vox pops for example. The remaining articles were all about crime news regarding Bäckby.   The result shows that there were five dominant frames, stereotype-, crime as socially different-, victim-, hero- and neutral frame. The result also shows that there was a big difference between how VLT wrote about crime committed in Bäckby in 2010 and 2016. The latent message in 2016 was that there were criminal youths who committed the crimes, because they frequently were described in the articles about crime in Bäckby. The suburb youths in Bäckby were described with stereotypical properties, while other youths in Västerås was described as good people with high ambitions. The result of this study is that when VLT wrote about crime in Bäckby, they used different actors to describe the reality.
