Hjo Vattenkuranstalt
Sammanfattning:
This study is about Hjo Vattenkuranstalt. The resort was inaugurated in 1878 and decreased in 1932 which led to the city of Hjo taking over the resort. The questions that the study attends are how the business was run and what changes were made during that time. Furthermore, the study attends the social composition among the guests and how economic changes and social developments affected the resort. The results showed that Hjo Vattenkuranstalt experienced an expansive period with a growth of the area of the resort such as infills and modernization of treatments. This took place during a time when Sweden, among other things, underwent industrialization with a rapid expansion of the railway. With time, the view of the water’s health benefits changed and it was no longer considered as beneficial as before. As a consequence, the resort then came to offer other activities which also favored social life. The guest records that have been studied show an equal balance in numbers between genders and that first class citizens dominate among the guests, who had socio-economic benefits for this type of stay. During the 1920s the business of the resort suffered, which reflects the country’s situation after the First World War. This led to increased fees as well as a new entrance fee to the city park to increase revenue. The Depression during the 1930s, as well as the restaurant burning down, meant the end for the resort whose economic difficulties became unobtainable.
