Sammanfattning: During the current pandemic, emergency medical services (EMS) are needed more than ever, and for people to receive the care they need, all resources must be in place for the workload to be sustainable. Paramedics treat sick patients on a daily basis, which increases the risk of becoming infected. If an employee becomes ill and needs to report sick during the night, when it is less than 24 hours until the start of the shift, it is important that the organization effectively handles the acute vacancy. In our report, we have chosen to simplify the routine of staffing acute vacancies during the night shift for the EMS in the Halland Region. The current routine that the EMS uses when staffing acute vacancies affect operations on both a social and economic level. Today, the routine is time-consuming for staff who, in addition to their regular duties, are tasked with managing acute vacancies. The routine is costly partly because overtime salaries vary depending on staff and partly because one of the external parties involved in the management of acute vacancies is paid for the assignment they perform. Finally, an uneven division of labor is created between employees due to the fact that acute vacancies are filled based on a first-come, first-served method. The purpose of the project has been to simplify the management of acute vacancies and facilitate communication between management and employees. The goal has been to develop prototypes of both an application and the web-based solution that will be a starting point for the development of the final product. The result, Vacare, is a product that eliminates external parties involved in the management of acute vacancies and creates a more even division of labor among employees, which will result in reduced costs since the right staff is prioritized. The product will also make it possible for management to convey important information in a place where it is quickly and easily accessible to employees. The project is a collaboration between the project group and the ambulance service in the Halland Region, thus the product is user-adapted according to their requirements and wishes. In the case of vacancies that have arisen close to the start of the shift, the first-come, first-served method may be directly necessary for the organization to function. However, there is often time to wait for more answers from employees to be able to choose a more suitable replacement from an economic and social perspective. With the help of Vacare, we want to contribute to the development of a digitalized healthcare for increased sustainability.
