Sammanfattning: Aim: The purpose with this study was to examine if there is burnout or symptoms of burnout among Swedish alpine coaches. The study would also investigate if the place of work have any meaning of developing burnout symptom or to become burnout. How the coaches think that their working situation could be any better is also going to be lightened. Method: The participants in this study were all full time paid alpine coaches in Sweden. Total amount of participator was 28. 13 of them worked on ski gymnasium, 4 worked on ski collage and 11 worked in SSF (Swedish Ski Federation). To measure burnout MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory) were chosen. To measure how the coaches were feeling KSQ (Karolinska Sleep Questionnaire) that measure the sleep, RPWB (Ryff´s Psychological Well-Being scales) that measure well-being, and EI (Emotional Intelligence) that measures emotions was sent, and it also was sent other measurements. The answers was analysed thru frequencies and contents analysis. Also personal interviews was made just to better investigate how coaches working situation is. Results: The result shows from the MBI that the average on the burnout dimension emotional exhaustion has raised from 2004 until 2005 (18,2-24,3). At closer analysis it shows that 42% had high burnout scores which mean that they will be at risk of burnout. Of these 42% there were 18% that also had high burnout scores 2004. The differences between the groups was that among these who had high burnout scores on the emotional exhaustion on MBI there was 55% that worked for the Ski Federation and 33% worked on ski gymnasiums or ski collage. Also nights away from home were different and the Ski Federation group was away at least 120 nights and the other group was away mostly 120 nights per year. Spent hour at work was different where the employees on Ski Federation during a week of hard work where at work at an average of 84,6 hours and the other group spent 67,7 hours per week at work. Discussion: This study shows that the main part of the coaches in Sweden is feeling well but there is about 40% that is prone to burnout. Reasons for that could be that these individuals are working to many hours and that’s why they don’t recover well. Employees on the federation seems to be more prone to burnout than there colleagues on ski gymnasiums and ski collages. The reasons seems to be that they are away from home more and this could be handled for example with a rotating schedule were they could be home more
