Sammanfattning: This thesis aims to bring a greater understanding of the normalization of right-wing populism by analysing the immigration discourse of Donald Trump and the way he speaks about building the Wall against Mexico. In this study, three different transcripts of his speeches are analysed with a critical discourse theory and the right- wing theoretical framework of Ruth Wodak. These methodological and theoretical choices allow the analysis to identify and further investigate the right- wing discourse in the immigration policy and the potential effects of these social practices. The results of the study show that Trumps exhibits a right-wing discourse that realises on the identification of the Mexican people as the scapegoat of an immigration crisis. This discourse identifies Trump’s way of portraying the illegal immigration as one of the biggest threats to American security and legitimizing of the plan to build a wall against Mexico.
