"Informationen går mig förbi" : - En studie om att utforma patientinformation till föräldrar med sjuka barn
Sammanfattning: Karolinska University Hospital has noted that there is a problem with patient information. This study addresses the information that goes out to children and their parents in connection with a calling to Astrid Lindgrens Children’s Hospital. The problem is regarding the fact that the information does not reach the target group and that this becomes time consuming for healthcare professionals. This is due to the fact that they have to repeat the information at a doctor's visit. Karolinska University hospital has asked for a more target group-adapted information material that will easily reach the target audience. The patient information that is being sent in connection with the call is based on the medical staff's previous experiences. There is also information that must be included because patients have the right to decide on their own health care, treatments and samples. Research has shown that people exposed to stress have more difficulty to remember information and to focus their attention. It has also been found that patients who get the right information feel like they are a part of their treatment and that it increases a sense of confidence to the care provider. This study has been conducted using various theories focusing on crisis communication, cognition and textual hierarchies. To find out how these theories are perceived by the target group, a test has been conducted using a survey. The study also conducts a functional text analysis and an interview. The conclusions of the study are that it is important that the target group is personally approached to involve them in an open dialogue. It has also proved to be important with concrete information. However, the most considerable conclusion from this work is that it shows that the most crucial information is placed at the beginning of the information material, since the parents' ability to concentrate is affected by stress.
