En resa över kulturer : En undersökning om hur företag X expatriater i Sverige upplever företagets hantering av expatrieringsprocessen

Sammanfattning: With increased globalization more companies are sending their employees abroad in order for the company’s survival on the market. Many studies in the field of International Business describe unsuccessful foreign assignments and the importance of intercultural support regarding expatriation. Due to the fact that company X is an international organization we found an interest in studying how the company handles their expatriation process in Sweden. This became the purpose of our study. A survey was made on company X’s expatriates in Stockholm to find a pattern among the expatriate’s experiences and their needs for intercultural support. The results have shown that the support recommended in theory is also the support desired by the expatriates. The study shows that the variables which primarily have an impact on company X’s expatriates and their adjustment to the Swedish culture are: intercultural communication and competency, company support and how those accompanying the expatriates experience the new society. In terms of best results regarding expatriates cultural adjustment and integration into the Swedish society the study shows that cross-cultural training and support are the most important variables.
