Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Miljövetenskaplig utbildning

Sammanfattning: Car prevalence in society has a negative effect on both local and global environments. One way to tackle these problems is to restrict car traffic in city centres, this comes not only with effects on the environment. How car free zones can affect retail in cities is examined in this study. The study takes place in ten retail shops in the city centre of Lund along three streets. Customers are asked to answer a survey with four questions which involve how the respondent travelled to the shop and their shopping behaviour. The answers show that the revenue from customers travelling by car is around 11-16 % and the loss of car travelling shoppers will be around 3-6 %. If the retail revenue is no going to decrease an increase in pedestrians visiting the shops solely needs to be around 12-28%. About 60 % of the car - born customers are willing to change their travel behaviour to be able to visit the shops. This shows that the shops in the city centre of Lund have attraction even without car facilities on the streets. Extension of car restriction in Lund will have effect on the retail which this study shows. Retail have an important function in the livelihood of city centres and is key to sustainable cities. Development of urban areas needs to be beneficial for shops that are located in the town centres.
