Klimataktivism för vem? : en frameanalys av hur Extinction Rebellion formulerar problem, orsak, och lösning

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Humanekologi

Sammanfattning: This thesis examines the international climate movement, Extinction Rebellion. Since its establishment, it has been the topic of considerable media criticism, where several groups believe that they are not politically inclusive. This study seeks to show how their portrayal of themselves and their politics is not a neutral discursive terrain, but has political implications. Using frame analysis as its method this thesis examines how Extinction Rebellion formulates the problem, cause, and solution of the climate emergency problem. This is analyzed based on theories of identity, frame and a debate about particularism and universalism. The results show that through their creation of universal truths and abstract identities, they fail to recognize certain particularities and social attributes which excludes subjects who are not ready to renounce these attributes in favor of the abstract identity. Attempts to represent everyone leads to criticism of those who do not see their interests as integrated, and the movement fails to stand in solidarity with certain political struggles, which might explain the extensive media criticism that has been made.
