Sammanfattning: Horses require water to thrive and maintain normal functions in the horse body. The quality of water could be a problem since many horses are offered water in buckets or barrels that are not cleaned and refilled often. Microorganisms could then decrease the hygienically quality of water. The purpose of this study is to see if adding of a drinking water purification affect voluntary water intake of horses. The hypothesis was that the horses will drink more when a drinking water purification is added, because of the improved hygienically water quality. Twelve horses was used in this study and they continued with their normal training, stabling and routines. Water was only offered in the stable. The testing period was four weeks divided in three periods. Period one and three there was no drinking water purification added, and in period two there was a drinking water purification added to their drinking water. The water intake was 6.9 liters higher per day with drinking water purification added than with no water drinking purification added. The conclusions was that water intake was significantly higher with water purification (Hippofix) added.
