Men vi talade inte om Asperger. En cripläsning av två svenska ungdomsromaner och deras gestaltning av neuropsykiatrisk funktionsnedsättning

Sammanfattning: In this essay I’ll be doing a Crip Reading of two Swedish young adult novels, Här ligger jag och blöder and Jag är ju så jävla easy going. By using Crip Theory and “Skevteori”, I examine how disabilities are constructed and performed within the text, as well as how it's talked about and viewed among the novels’ characters. I also examine how disabilities interact with gender and how some symptoms and aspects could get in the way of living up to certain expectations in relation to one's gender identity. My analysis shows that the two characters with a disability are viewed differently than their peers, both before and after they get an actual diagnosis. This also seems to affect the way they relate to their own disability. The actual diagnosis could also be seen as a stigma, since it confirms their divergence from the norm. However, since they both have an invisible disability, it's possible to pass as a neurotypical by performing the "right" behaviour. Throughout my analysis, it also becomes somewhat clear that certain aspects of their disabilities keep them from living up to the expectations regarding gender.
