Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to do a qualitative investigation of a language café in the setting of the Swedish church in Lund. The aim is to find out how the process of integration is perceived by the migrants and the volunteers and if there is a qualitative difference between opinions on goals, determinant factors, result, and context. The selection was from the chosen study object and its population of migrants and volunteers. The volunteers were selected through recommendation or snowball selection and the migrants were selected strategically by the author. The methodology is mainly qualitative interviews and three migrants and four volunteers took part in the investigation. The aim is also to observe interactions between migrants and volunteers to get a deeper understanding of the social phenomena. The result was interpreted with academic literature from social researchers like Ervin Goffman, George Herbert Mead and Max Weber definition of power interpreted by Greta Marie Skau. The result shows a big difference in the way the migrants and the volunteers see the migration process. The volunteers are occupied by the thought of educating and informing the migrants on topics like language and the social situation in the country, while the migrants also want to learn, the migration process for them is above all an opportunity to get a social network and meet people in a voluntary way.
