En kritisk studie av bistånd och jämställdhetsutveckling inom LDC´s

Detta är en L1-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: Foreign aid with the aim to promote gender inequality within low-development countries (LDC´s) has increased significantly during the last decade. According to a report published by the OECD, bilateral assistance from the OECD Assistance Committee (DAC) aimed at increasing gender equality reached an average of 44.8 billion US dollar during the period 2016-2017. OECD, together with the World Bank, claims that this development cooperation generates progress within the LDCs. Despite this, statistics published by the World Bank illustrates how the degree of all-encompassing gender equality has not increased since the early 2000s in the sub-Saharan region of Africa. Based on indicators of gender equality, this study aims to shed light on dominant actors' views on development and gender equality. Furthermore, the dissertation aims to highlight shortcomings in current development assistance and develop the theory in the field. This, based on previous critical feminist theories. Our study concludes that today's development agenda is strongly influenced by neoliberal views regarding progress and development. A primary focus on economic growth undermines progress within aid aimed at reducing gender inequality.
