Navigating through life with metaphors as a guide. : An analysis about mind style and metaphors in John Green's The Fault In Our Stars and its pedagogical use.

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för språk (SPR)

Sammanfattning: This essay offers a literary study of John Green’s novel The Fault In Our Stars which was published in 2012. This thesis argues that Hazel and Augustus are portraying unorthodox mind styles, and they are demonstrating this with their use of and stance towards metaphors. Also, this thesis argues that working with TFIOS can be beneficial to use in the EFL classroom, as this can increase students’ writing and reading abilities as well as their motivation. By blending concepts about mind style with cognitive metaphor theory as a theoretical framework for the analysis, conclusions could be made about Hazel’s and Augustus’s metaphorical choices and that these are to a high degree connected to control.
