Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to create a greater understanding of how public librarians view their digital literacy and make sense of their role in library activities, with the purpose to increase other peoples digital literacy. An increasing need for digital literacy have influenced public library activities and the profession of public librarians and their need for digital skills. This makes it important to consider professionals perspectives on digital literacy. The research questions are: How do public librarians view their digital literacy? How do public librarians create sense of their role in activities aimed at increasing the public’s digital literacy? How do public librarians experience the expectations on public libraries to increase digital literacy activities? The empirical material was collected using semistructured interviews with five librarians and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The theory used for analyzing the results is Karl E. Weicks theory on sensemaking in organizations. The study concludes that public librarians view digital literacy as a natural part of their profession and the digital skill set as sufficient in order to manage the daily tasks. The librarians make sense of their role especially by drawing clues from the context and by earlier sensemaking processes. The study also concludes that the librarians see the expectations on increasing digital literacy activities as challenging in several different ways.
