Sammanfattning: Background Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), one of the largest public disease, is rapidly increasing in the entire world. The disease causes increased morbidity and mortality. In case of illness in the T2D, lifestyle change has a crucial importance in the health and well-being of a person, just like diet changes and physical activity. To reduce the risk of severe complications self-care through lifestyle change are necessary. Aim The aim of this study was to describe experiences of lifestyle change in people with the T2D. Method A literature review was conducted with a qualitative approach. Nine qualitative studies were analyzed according to Fribergs five-step analysis, which resulted in three themes and eleven subthemes. Results The theme Experiences about physical activity described Obstacles to being physically active and Source of motivation and recovery. The theme Experiences around diet described Understanding of the importance of the diet and Changing diet - a challenge. The theme Self-care and own responsibility described Denial and rejection, Hope for the future, Struggle for a meaningful life, Powerlessness and Willingness to change. Conclusion Implementing lifestyle changes is a complex process that requires knowledge and motivation in people with DT2. The nurse needs to find appropriate ways to inform and transfer useful knowledge to the person. The persons need support to find their usefulresources to perform self-care and achieve the nursing goals. A preferable way to support the person is involving the family or relatives.
