Sammanfattning: A criminal lifestyle from within The aim of this study was to create an understanding of earlier offenders. Specifically the aim has been to examine the life of offenders from their childhood to today on how they see themselves on their earlier criminal life. The selection of people who participated in the study was people who previously had a criminal lifestyle. We have taken a qualitative approach on our study, that have included five semi-structured interviews. The participants were selected by ourselves from an organization that works with rehabilitating ex-criminals. Theoretical perspectives have broadened our understanding of offenders own experiences. We found out that social bonds have a huge impact on why people engage in a criminal lifestyle. This when bonds were loose to parents, conventional activities, school and the society during childhood. Also the intercourse with friends have had an impact since our participants committed crimes in a group. We found that substance abuse had close correlations with a criminal lifestyle. We also found that when people wanted to get out of their criminal lifestyle, they all had their social bonds strengthened to the society through family and self-help groups.
