Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Örebro universitet/Institutionen för humaniora, utbildnings- och samhällsvetenskap

Sammanfattning: Despite a decreased gender segregation in the labor market, the difference between women and men's opportunities to reach managerial positions remains. Men tend to claim higher positions in the hierarchy, which results in difficulties for women to reach managerial positions in maledominated organizations. The purpose of this study is to increase knowledge about women's perceived opportunities as well as barriers to reach managerial positions in male-dominated organizations. The study’s theoretical frame consists of different gender theories, an understanding of organizational structure and other phenomena that can help us understand what obstacles women encounter in labor market, such as glass roofs and homosociality. We interviewed five women from two different male-dominated organizations within the forest and engineering industries. The initial results show that women perceive opportunities and not barriers to reach managerial positions. However, the closer we analyze, the more we understand that the women experience obstacles in a more hidden form. They express that they must exert more efforts compared to men, which may indicate that there are difficulties for women in maledominated organizations to reach managerial positions.
