Trygghetsskapande vid tågstationer : en jämförelse av detaljplaneringsarbeten i Hyllie, Rosengård och Åkarp

Sammanfattning: This comparative thesis investigates in what ways municipal detailed planning of three train station areas considered perceived safety. It further examines how strengths and weaknesses in each case’s perceived safety methodology can be understood through established planning models/concepts and existing academic research on Swedish perceived safety planning. Finally, the study concludes how future planning projects related to train stations could improve their planning for perceived safety. Three planning cases were studied: Hyllie station and Rosengård station in the city of Malmö, and Åkarp station in the municipality of Burlöv. These were analyzed through qualitative content analysis of planning documents and interviews with planners related to the cases. Results showed that all three cases employed perceived safety models of crime prevention, placemaking, social control, integrating functions and traditional situational measures, though some were utilized more than others. While previous research has critiqued Swedish perceived safety planning for lacking structure, guidelines and knowledge, this study concluded that a flexible, cooperative and continuous work structure for perceived safety planning was considered the most effective and successful by planners, as long as good communication and the right mix of competences were present.
