Välfärdsregimer, solidaritet och nyliberalism - En flernivåregressionsanalys av relationen mellan välfärdsregim och solidaritetsgrad
Sammanfattning: The study examines the relation between welfare regimes and notions of solidarity in 2008 and 2016, using quantitative methods. Previous research identifies a strong correlation between type of welfare regime and notions of solidarity. Due to a neoliberal shift in politics and policy-making, the welfare state is changing towards becoming a “workfare” state. This thesis examines if the neoliberal shift has had an impact on the relation between welfare regimes and notions of solidarity. To capture different aspects of a complex phenomenon, the study operationalizes solidarity in two different ways: as institutional and relational solidarity. The method used is a statistical multilevel analysis, using data from two waves of the European Social Study. The conclusion is that both institutional and relational solidarity have strong correlations with welfare regimes. Overall, the study confirms the results of previous research. The neoliberal shift has thus not yet been conceivable as a change in notions of solidarity. However, more research is needed in order to explore this theme.
