Yrkesverksamma med grav hörselnedsättning - påverkan av omgivningens stöd på livskvalitet. - En registerstudie
Sammanfattning: Purpose: To examine if there is a relationship between quality of life and social support, both from within the workplace and from family, for workers with severe hearing impairment.Method: A retrospective study based of data on 277 patients with severe to profound hearing impairment in The Swedish Quality Register of Severe Hearing Impairment. The patients rated their experience with support from their workplace and from family. Two surveys where used to measure quality of life.Results: The results show that for workers with severe hearing loss, high support within the workplace is significantly correlated to better health related quality of life. The results also show a significant correlation between support from family and health related quality of life.Conclusions: Experiencing high or very high support from the social environment is correlated with better quality of life. Workers with severe hearing impairment should be offered extended audiological rehabilitation with a multiprofessional approach. The impact of social support should be taken into consideration and family participation should be encouraged in the hearing rehabilitation process in order to help create understanding and support.
