REVITALIZING THE RWN AREAL - From an Industrial Blindspot to an Integrated Neighborhood

Sammanfattning: The 36-hectare large RWN Areal is located 2 km south of the city center of Neubrandenburg, Germany. What once was founded as a Torpedo Testing Facility during WWII, became a Military Repair Work Facility during the GDR government until 1990. After the German Reunification, the site has only served business and industrial purposes, but was more so neglected in the 2000s and became a blind spot ever since. Through its central position in the city, we have the opportunity of integrating a mixed-use neighborhood with industrial remnants. The RWN Areal will be a revitalizing, but also re-urbanizing and urban recycling project, in which solutions of an Urban Area can be discovered, combining work, living, and recreation. The development of the RWN Areal will offer a citizen-friendly environment with short distances that combine all parts of day-to-day life. The aim is to ultimately create a high-quality area, resilient and sustainable in its urban design features and safe and accessible for all people.
