Hur kan muslimska brödraskapets valframgångar i Egypten förklaras? - En fallstudie om egyptiskt väljarbeteende
Sammanfattning: With this qualitative case study I intended to explain the Muslim Brotherhood's electoral success in Egypt during the year of 2012. I aimed to do this by answering the question of "Why did the Muslim Brotherhood win the presidential election in Egypt in 2012?" In this study, I disclosed four different theories of voting behavior: ideological closeness, the relevance of the agenda, clarity, and competence. Based on these theories, I depicted the Muslim Brotherhood’s ideology in relation to that of the Egyptian people’s, the Muslim Brotherhood's agenda in relation to the statistics in the country for the years of 2010, 2011, and 2012, how they spread their message and their organization’s logic and mobilization. It is concluded that the Muslim Brotherhood’s success in the presidential election was because the majority of the Egyptian people are Muslims, because of issues of social freedom, political freedom, and the protection of fundamental rights. Furthermore, because of their clarity when the organization stood on the people's side during the revolution and offered education and healthcare to the poor, and also because of their complicated but structural branching system as well as their mobilization under state repression.
